Spinning Disney's World: Memories of a Magic Kingdom Press Agent

Charles Ridgway was named a Disney Legend in 1999 – with his very own window on Main Street U.S.A. at Florida’s Magic Kingdom – after serving for over 40 years as a publicist for the Disney theme parks around the globe.

In this great book, Ridgway looks back on his career recounting hilarious tales and anecdotes of famous people and outlandish publicity stunts from Disneyland, Walt Disney World, Disneyland Paris and beyond.

This light-hearted memoir explains how Ridgway crafted (and executed) new and ingenious ways to attract attention to the Disney theme parks (often investing little to no money), including having fifty white ducks parade down Main Street U.S.A. behind Donald Duck in celebration of his fiftieth birthday. It was no easy task: to pull it off, Donald himself was present when the ducklings were born so that the little fellows would follow him anywhere : )

When the celebration was over, the publicity legend arranged to have Disney donate pairs of ducks to zoos around the country, thus guaranteeing another avalanche of publicity. Stroke of genius indeed!

Spinning Disney's World: Memories of a Magic Kingdom Press Agent – by none other the man who often told Walt himself where to stand for photos – is a treasure trove of inside information that will delight Disney enthusiasts young and young at heart.

Highly recommended, especially (though definitely not exclusively) for anyone involved in the publicity, marketing or advertising industries.
